LAKE TAHOE BEACHES

Welcome to our beach information page!

View of Lake Tahoe over Sand Harbour

There are more than thirty good beaches surrounding Lake Tahoe. Sand Harbor Beach is shown in this first image taken from a mile away. It's one of the warmest of Tahoe's beaches and is a favorite sunbathing location. There are numerous rocky shoreline areas as well. The water is fresh, cold, and crystal clear. Like many alpine lakes, the water color varies from azure-blue to emerald green.

Summer water temperatures seldom reach a comfortable swimming level. Even in the hottest weather, the water temperature remains in the sixties making trips into the lake very brief! However, there are lots of water activities including kayaking, rafting, and parasailing. Sunbathing is also very popular. However, be cautious - the lake is at high altitude and the ultraviolet rays can damage skin very rapidly!

View of Lake Tahoe
from Nevada Beach

Nevada Beach is
three-eighths of a mile from our condominiums. It's 200 to 300 feet wide and about a mile long. Like all Tahoe beaches, towering pines are scattered throughout the beach area providing some shade. Also typical: picnic tables and volleyball nets. Descriptions of several Tahoe beaches follow. There are minor parking fees (e.g. $5 per vehicle) at most beach entrances but few beaches have fees for cyclists and pedestrians.
